Part One - Weeks 1 to 5

In dance you will learn a Matt Mattox inspired routine, similar to routines they teach in most drama school auditions and in the jazz classes of a degree course.

You will learn the technique and coordination required for this style of routine, as well as corner work.

There will also be a focus on audition etiquette in a dance call, in terms of how to present yourself professionally.

In acting we will begin with character work, and focusing on how to build a character from scratch. Each student will be assisted in choosing a suitable modern monologue for an audition and apply the techniques learnt from their character work classes to the monologue.

Most drama schools also do an improv/workshop style audition and we will be introducing this in our sessions so you can feel comfortable showing your true-selves and listening to instructions in an audition setting.

Singing lessons will include harmony work in a group, to help build confidence and learn musicality and tuning skills. These first five weeks will focus on choosing a suitable legit song for your vocal range and age, as well as choosing a great 16 bar cut.

Each student will get 1-2-1 time working on their song. You will learn how to present your music in an audition and speak professionally to the pianist.

In our personal development sessions you will receive sessions in yoga and mindset, healthy eating, marketing for actors as well as being set contextual studies homework to broaden your knowledge of musicals and composers, in preparation for the interview section of an audition.

Part Two - Weeks 6 to 10

There will be a focus of ballet in the dance classes, to give understanding of a different technique that can be required in drama school auditions. You will work on barre work, travelling steps, adage and pirouettes.

In acting, you will be assisted in choosing a Shakespeare monologue that meets the requirements of most drama school auditions. You will be encouraged to choose something that is a contrast to your modern monologue, and therefore shows range and challenges you.

You will be taught how to understand the text and convey character emotion and intention through the monologue. There will also be a session to work on a duologue, as sometimes drama schools might pair actors up to see how they work with others.

In singing there will be a focus on choosing a modern song that meets the actors casting but also contrasts to your legit song. We will be taking techniques learnt from acting classes and applying them in an ‘acting through song’ format, to give an all-round performance in your audition.

Personal development will consist of self-tape workshops, tax for actors, contextual studies and preparation for the interview section of auditions.
